Sneaker Chic: A Guide to Nailing Spring's Sporty Trend

*This is Laura Cocchia's draft of her Spring 2014 Article to be featured in Fordham University's Mode Magazine*
All student photos were taken and edited by Laura Cocchia

If you've been keeping up with your daily digest of fashion news, you should be noticing that something quite interesting has been brewing in the industry for the upcoming spring season. Finally, women can embrace a more orthopedic-friendly style shoe that is taking the fashion-sphere by storm, our good old friend: the sneaker!

There are so many types of styles, functions, colors, you name it, that you can look for in a sneaker, which can make the whole selection process become pretty overwhelming. But don't sweat ladies, Mode has broken it down for you into three simple steps. First, take a look at the couture inspiration that caught our attention, straight from the runway in Paris. Second, we will show you how some Fordham's own students have styled several looks so you can pick your favorite(s). Lastly, we have provided some examples of each shoe type that are currently on the market for you to buy, so get them while they last!

FYI, there are two hot collaborations that we recommend you take note of:

1. Riccardo Tisci x Nike
Tisci has brought Givenchy to a whole new level of cool, and has done a superb job in giving the brand a great presence in street fashion. A Tisci collaboration with a sneaker kingpin like Nike is everyone's dream come true! Or at least mine.

2. Adidas Originals x Topshop
A more affordable option for us price-conscious shoppers. I love Topshop as is, and always have been an Adidas girl from childhood (do you remember the Samba phase?). Not to mention, Topshop also recently announced that it will be opening a 5th Avenue flagship in Manhattan - a.k.a. the goods will be much more accessible to those who don't always feel like trekking down to SoHo. This lovely brand collaboration launched 20 new pieces on March 20th.

Not from NYFW, but Anna Wintour's first Vogue cover shot - I love this and just had to document it. I want that shirt!

Lisa and Patrick Engagement Photo Shoot

Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking photos for my sister Lisa and her lovely fiance, Patrick on behalf of their widely celebrated engagement. We toured the Upper East Side and made plenty of fun stops along the way, starting in their neighborhood by the East River, and ending in Central Park. Take a look at some beautiful pictures of an even more beautiful couple. Who knows, maybe this whole photography thing can be my next side job?

Office Style Inspiration

This week at work, one of my bosses was wearing the most CHIC outfit and I haven't been able to get it off my mind since Monday (it was THAT good).

She paired a floral Balenciaga mini skirt with a light grey three quarter sleeve top, and finished the look off with some adorable printed sandals. The reason I loved it so much was that it wasn't a look for fall that I was expecting at all, but she totally made it work!

So ladies, don't be afraid to think outside of the box for fall, and still add some pops of color into your wardrobe. Who knows, maybe we will have at least one more warm October day to squeeze in an outfit like this!
